Strategen has spearheaded the evolution of the grid-connected energy storage market via the California Energy Storage Alliance (CESA), an ad-hoc advocacy group we co-founded in 2009. Grid storage is widely accepted as the ‘holy grail’ of grid optimization and thus a key enabler of renewable energy adoption. The key challenge for energy storage as an asset class is to capture the many benefit streams that it provides, as these benefits accrue to many different stakeholders within the electric power system:
